On Sunday, May 17, 2020, Carlos de Sousa Brandão, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 76.
Private funeral services will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave. Harrison, NJ 07029.
Carlos was born on October 3, 1943 in Paredes de Coura, Portugal to Manuel Jose and Prazeres Brandão. On April 20, 1968 Carlos married Carminda Esteves Rodrigues. They raised two sons, Antonio and Jose, and one daughter, Maria. Carlos immigrated to the United States in 1973 to provide a better life for his family which eventually settled in the Ironbound section of Newark. He worked in the construction business in a variety of capacities including foreman.
Carlos had a variety of passions and interests which included a love of soccer, travel, deep sea fishing, participating in card tournaments, and enjoying quality time with family and friends. He was also impossible to beat at checkers. Carlos was known for his intelligence, calm demeanor, along with having a kind and compassionate spirit.
Carlos was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Jose, and his mother, Prazeres. He is survived by his wife Carminda, his three children, Antonio, Maria, and Jose, grandchildren Andrew, and Abigail, his brother Antonio, sister Celia, along with several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.
