Jose Alberto Mendes

Jose Alberto Dias Mendes of Kearny, NJ entered into eternal rest on Monday April 27, 2020 at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark.  He was 72 years old.  

Private funeral services are under the direction of Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Avenue, Harrison NJ 07029.  

Jose was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. Before coming to America, he served the Portuguese Army during the military counterinsurgency campaigns against separatist forces of Angola during the 1960’s. Once his duties were fulfilled, he then moved to Kearny, NJ in the early 1970’s to join the rest of his family in the US.  He worked for FAPS Inc. as an auto body painter until his retirement on 2009.

No one who met Zecas will forget his sense of duty for work and his indiscriminative love for all of his children.

He is survived by his second wife, Maria DeLourdes Mendes with their sons, Albert and Kevin Mendes. Also survived by his son and daughters of his first wife; Jose Mendes, Ana Luisa and Carla Mendes. His memory will continue to live on by many his siblings, Mario, John, Jorge and Priniplena Mendes, is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jose was predeceased by his parents, Jose G and Julia Mendes, a Brother Eduardo Mendes, and his sisters Elisabete Costa and Anabela Mendes and 1ST grandchild Natasha Matos.
