Jose M. Lavin of Harrison, NJ fell asleep in death surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 23, 2023. He was 89 years old.
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba to parents Jose & Maria (nee Pomar) Lavin. Jose came to the United States fleeing communism in 1966 and lived in the Ironbound section of Newark before settling in Harrison, NJ in 1978. He worked as a Longshoreman for Port Newark for 37 years before retiring at the age of 71.
Jose enjoyed spending time at home with his family that he loved dearly. He would carve out time every Friday with his three brothers at noon for over 30 years for lunch in Newark. Jose valued keeping the family together even after his parents passed. Enjoyed walks around the town of Harrison, an avid reader of current events and always helping others in need when able. He cherished his family and they were was his world. We look forward to seeing him again in God’s promised paradise (Psalms 37:29).
Jose is survived and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Miriam Lavin, loving daughters, Jeanette Lavin Gordon and her husband Michael, Lissette Lavin Alfonso and her husband, Al, and Marilyn Lavin Malignaggi and her husband, Umberto, cherished grandchildren, Ruben, Jordynn, Nicollette, Andreus, Maximus and Deanna, and dear nephews and a niece, Martha Lavin Bautiste, and Mark and Jose Francisco Lavin.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 27 at 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave. Harrison, NJ 07029.
The Funeral will be Thursday, 10:30 am at Funeral Home followed by Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
