Julia Rose Williams Gray, a lifelong resident of Newark, New
Jersey, passed away at her home after a brief illness on
April 26, 2020. Julia was born on January 6, 1924 in
Pennsylvania to George Williams and Marian Foreman. She
entered into her eternal rest at the age of 96.
Private funeral services will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave. Harrison, NJ 07029.
As a young child, her family moved to Newark NJ where she
has lived for the past 86 years. Julia worked for Wells
Fargo Bank (formally First Union Bank) as an international
exchange clerk for 22 years and retired in 1989. Julia was a
beloved parishioner of Saint Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral, a lector
and Eucharistic minister. She was also and a member of the
parish board at Saint Patrick’s and Saint Lucy’s Church in
Newark, New Jersey.
Julia graduated from Barringer High School in Newark; she
enjoyed learning new things and traveling. As an avid
seamstress, she was an inspiration to her many daughters
and loved the occasional assorted box of chocolates and
long stem red roses.
Julia married the love of her life, Alfonso Bernard Gray Sr.
on April 12, 1947. He preceded her in death after 58 years
together. To that union, they were blessed with ten caring
children: Dulcina Ginger Gray, Yolandatheresa Gray
Thomas, Alfonso B. Gray Jr., Dolores R. Gray, Cheryl Gray
Ball, Josephfinis Gray, Katherine L. Gray, Edward W. Gray
(deceased; Michelle, also deceased), Julienne M. Gray, and
Chandra (Candy) Gray Blanks. Her siblings Martha
Freeman, Marilyn D. Henry, and George Williams Jr, also
predeceased her. She has nine precious grandchildren:
Jonathan K. Gray (deceased), Francillia Rosa Molina
(Abbymael), James Bernard Thomas, Dawn J. Gray,
Christopher G. Ball (Jennifer), E. Alexander Gray, Alicia M.
Blanks, Miles X. Gray, Elizabeth Rose Ball and five loving
great grandchildren: Nasirah Seabreeze, Genesis Molina,
Andrew Molina, Anthony Southall and Adrienne Ball.
Julia will be missed by church family and friends. Her family
and friends in Pennsylvania and Texas will also miss her.
