Maria do Rosario (Bessa) Pereira

Maria R. Pereira, of Harrison, NJ, entered into eternal rest peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 14, 2020. She was 80 years old.

Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, private funeral services will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave. Harrison, NJ 07029. Her cremation will be private and she will be buried in her family cemetery plot in Portugal.

Born in Buarcos, Figueira da Foz, Portugal, Maria emigrated from Portugal to Nova Scotia in 1960 and to the United States in 1971 she lived in the Ironbound Section of Newark, before settling in Harrison in 1977. She was a factory worker for 15 years and a care giver for several families in Short Hills for many years. She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church, in Harrison.

Maria is survived by her beloved husband, Antonio and loving children, John Pereira and his wife Cathy, Mary Jo Ferrante and her husband John, cherished grandchildren Isabella and John John Ferrante and Jessica (Rob) Lavorerio. Also surviving are her sister, Generosa Leitão, and a large beloved family in her hometown in Portugal.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in care of the funeral home, in loving memory of Maria.
