Mary N. Caruso

Mary N. Caruso, of Harrison, Entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 9, 2022.  She was 101 years old.

Born in Newark, Mary was a lifelong resident of Harrison. Mary and her husband Gennaro owned Caruso’s Tailor Shop in Belleville for 21 years.  Later, Mary worked as a Sales Clerk for Hahne Company in Newark and, most recently, was a Lunch Aide for the Harrison Board of Education. Mary was also a dedicated volunteer for many years at St. Anthony’s Church in East Newark.  

Mary loved spending time with her family.  She was an amazing cook and always enjoyed making dinners for her family and friends.  On Sundays, she would make homemade pasta and “gravy”.  Mary also loved going to Atlantic City and playing the slot machines.  She was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and knew more statistics than most people. 

Mary is survived by her son Thomas J. Caruso, granddaughter Danielle Caruso, daughter in law Sheila Caruso and Thomas’ fiancée Joanne Byrne. She was predeceased by her husband Gennaro J. Caruso in 1977, a daughter Theresa Caruso (2018), and her siblings, Nat, Sam and Josephine Cardea and Grace Lombardo.
