Maxine Vernella Burton, of West Orange, NJ, by the way of Bridgeport, CT and NYC entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 19th 2021. She was 79 years old.
A funeral service will be held at the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Avenue, Harrison, NJ 07029 on Saturday, September 4th at 10 am. Her Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Friends and relatives may visit on Saturday morning from 8:30am to 10am.
Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Maxine moved to the United States and lived in Brooklyn, New York, then moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut before she settled in West Orange in 2017. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bridgeport, CT. Maxine worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for Saint Joseph’s Center, Trumbull, CT . She was always a mother to her Jamaican Community throughout her life here and back home.
Maxine had a true passion for the Gospel of Christ, sewing, reggae music and cooked some of the most enticing dishes. Also, she was a big fan of many sports and athletes, especially Football (Soccer as some call it), Cricket and Track and Field. She loved to feed and council youth in all aspects of life.
Maxine is survived by her loving children, Angela, Devon, Gerald and John, and many grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Desmond, Gene, Linsay, Pauline and Norma as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Clive and Edmond and two Grandchildren, Nash and Shirlee.
