Raymond G. Graves of Stillwater, NJ (formerly Harrison, NJ) entered into eternal rest peacefully on March 20th, 2020 in his home. He was 83 years old.
Services will be private. A public memorial gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
He was born in Newark, NJ to John Graves and Ida Weigand who raised him on Washington St. in Harrison, NJ. He was a staple in Harrison and known to all as “Big Ray” or Mr. G directing traffic on 4th and Harrison. In July 1989, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of living in the “country” and purchased a small horse farm in Stillwater, NJ. Raymond was a Marine from 1954 to 1956. He then dedicated many years to serving as a police officer. He worked with the Harrison Police for 36 years until retiring in 1997. He was a longtime PBA 22 member, and held office as a President, Chairman, State Delegate, and Recording Secretary. He enjoyed many PBA convention trips with his family. Being in the country brought him a deep sense of happiness. He absolutely adored his horses and dogs. Some of his favorite pastimes included hunting and shooting. He was a Pistol Range Master in Redbank and Harrison. He also loved spending time every weekend with his 8 grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Loretta whom he has been married to for 59 years. He is also survived by his caring daughters Joan Woods (Stephen), Rosalind Graves, and Regina Graves (John Villa), as well as his treasured grandchildren Grace Villa, Nicolaus Harman, Cpl. Michael Raymond Harman (Kirsten), Natalie Harman, Jett Raymond Villa, Marc Harman, Mitchell and Nash Harman, his twin brother James Graves, and many nieces and nephews.
Raymond is predeceased by his brothers John Jr., Edward, and Calvin Graves.
