Born in Manila, Philippines, Rosalina grew up in a small district named San Andres with her parents and siblings. In the 1960’s, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing at La Concordia College in Manila. During her studies, she learned that nurses were needed in the United States and in exchange for coming to the U.S., she could earn a degree in higher education. She followed her passion and in 1979, she earned her master’s degree in Nursing at Columbia University, New York.
She lived and worked in Manhattan as a nurse before ultimately moving to New Jersey to settle her family with her former late husband Robert Mockus. After his passing, she continued to live on to fulfill her many dreams. She advanced in her career, owned real estate, opened multiple businesses and was a beloved Mother to her two children and companion to her husband, Mario. She also loved to travel all around the world with her daughter, Jennifer. Most recently, Rose was a Professor of Nursing at Essex County Community College, Newark, NJ before she retired in 2010. Prior to that, Rosalina worked in various hospitals and medical institutions as a nurse and teacher. She was sincerely loved as a colleague, but her biggest joy came from teaching. Her students loved and adored her and would always express their gratitude towards her. Some of her passions that she was known for was interior decorating and gardening. You can always catch Rose on her days off in her garden with her garden hat turning her vision into life.
Rosalina is survived by her beloved husband, Mario Caliendo, loving children, Jennifer C. Caliendo and Christopher C. Mockus, and a dear sister-in-law, Estrellita Cabahug. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. She was last surviving sibling of five brothers and sisters
